Cost per lead B2B contact database: how to price one usable contact

Last reviewed October 30, 2026

Quick answerDivide what you paid for the credits you spent by the contacts you can actually use: valid, in role and allowed to email.

Cost per lead from a B2B contact database: the formula

Cost per lead from a B2B contact database is what you paid for the credits you spent, divided by the contacts that were valid, in role and allowed to email. A credit, in UpLead's words, unlocks one contact for download or CRM export and includes the email and mobile direct dial.

  1. Add up what you paid: the plan fee plus any extra credits.
  2. Read the credits you spent from the Downloads table, which shows each download's lead count and credits used.
  3. Count the contacts that were valid, in role and allowed to email.
  4. Divide what you paid for those credits by that count.

As read on October 30, 2026, UpLead Essentials is $99 a month, billed monthly, for 170 credits a month, or $74 a month, billed annually, for 2,040 credits. Plus is $199 a month, billed monthly, for 400 credits a month. Extra credits cost $0.60 each on Essentials and $0.50 each on Plus.

Illustration with an assumed ratio, not a measured result: if 100 of the 170 contacts unlocked in a month are usable, the $99 plan fee is shared by 100 contacts, not 170.

What spends a credit on UpLead

Re-download from Downloads, not from search; the credit article says a re-download costs no credit. Unlocks in the Chrome extension spend credits, and a changed company can count as an additional credit under the terms.

The download setting decides what invalid emails cost

UpLead has three download settings. Valid Only charges for valid emails only. Valid and Accept All charges for both. Accept All means the mail server accepts every address, so the bounce risk is higher.

UpLead's verification article says the All Available Emails setting charges credits for invalid emails, while its email-verifier and downloads pages say invalid emails are not charged, so read the wording on your download screen before you download.

Credits you pay for and never use

Credits you do not spend still sit inside the plan fee, so they raise your cost per lead. UpLead's credits do not roll over, per the terms; UpLead pricing sets out where its own pages disagree.

UpLead's pricing page does not say whether the 2,040 credits on annual Essentials, or the 4,800 on annual Plus, arrive at once or monthly, so a yearly cost per lead assumes you use them within the term.

Comparing vendors: credit units differ

Credit units differ, so compare the cost of a usable contact, not a credit. At Lusha an email costs 1 credit and a phone number 5. Prospeo charges 1 credit for a verified email and 10 for a verified mobile number. Hunter charges 1 credit to find an email and 0.5 to verify one.

The B2B contact database cost per month page sets the monthly plans side by side.

Pick Lusha or Prospeo when you mostly need emails, since a phone or mobile number costs them several credits. Pick UpLead when each contact should arrive with email and mobile direct dial for one credit, remembering that not all contacts have a verified phone number. For the data itself, see how accurate is B2B contact database data.

Your own ratio is easiest to measure on a small list, and UpLead's 7-day trial unlocks 5 contacts. UpLead's help center adds that trial activation takes payment details and that an account not canceled by day 7 is billed for the Essentials annual plan.
