How accurate is B2B contact database data? What vendors claim and what happens on a bounce

Last reviewed October 30, 2026

Quick answerAn accuracy figure is the vendor's claim, not a promise for your list: UpLead says 95%, yet its bounce article ties it to the moment of verification and its terms disclaim accuracy. Read the bounce rule first.

How accurate is B2B contact database data: the vendors' own figures

A B2B contact database's accuracy figure is the vendor's own claim, measured on the vendor's own basis. UpLead says 95%, and 97%+ for emails with a valid status at the moment of download or export.

Other vendors print figures on other bases. Apollo.io says its built-in email verification process has a 91% accuracy rate. Lusha says it has 98% email accuracy and 85% US and 86% global phone accuracy. The bases differ, so read each as that vendor's claim.

What the accuracy figures measure, in the vendors' words

UpLead's bounce article says its 95% accuracy claim does not promise zero bounces when you send, and that the figure measures data quality at the point of verification. It also says every email you download is verified before export. Accept All, a status where the server accepts every address, carries a higher bounce risk.

UpLead's help center says phone accuracy can change over time and that not all contacts have a verified phone number. Hunter says a small percentage of addresses marked Valid can still bounce, and Apollo says sending to unverified addresses can increase your bounce risk.

What each vendor does when an email bounces

UpLead's home page promises refunds for bounces and poor data, but none of its pages says how a refund is claimed or how long you have to ask, and its terms say fees are non-refundable.

  • Apollo.io: if you send to an Apollo-verified email within 30 days of requesting it and it bounces, Apollo refunds the credits in the next billing cycle. The refund covers only emails sent within Apollo, and no mobile numbers.
  • Seamless.AI says it automatically refunds your credit if an email is invalid.
  • Lusha's route for a wrong record is to flag the field on the contact record.
  • Prospeo says you are charged only when a valid result is returned.
  • ZoomInfo and Cognism: ZoomInfo's home, pricing and trial pages and Cognism's pages print no bounce or refund rule.

How to test accuracy on a small batch before you buy

You can check a claim on a small batch. UpLead's trial holds 5 credits, enough for 5 contacts.

  1. Start the 7-day UpLead trial, which asks for payment details, and set the download setting to Valid Only.
  2. Unlock up to 5 contacts who match your buyer. Each unlock spends one trial credit.
  3. Verify each email just before sending, as UpLead's bounce article advises.
  4. Remove any address that hard bounces at once. A hard bounce is a permanent failure; a soft bounce is a temporary one.

UpLead says it checks each email on the spot when you unlock a lead or export in bulk, and its Valid Only setting charges credits only for emails marked valid. Five contacts will not give you a bounce rate. The best B2B contact database for small business guide sets UpLead beside the other databases.

Reading the terms: warranties and minimum leads

UpLead's terms say it does not warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of its data, does not promise any minimum number of leads, and provides the service and data on an as-is, as-available basis. Is UpLead legit covers the rest of the terms.

Pick Seamless.AI if its stated automatic credit refund for invalid emails matters most; UpLead vs Seamless.AI sets the two side by side. Pick UpLead if you want a download setting that charges only valid emails and can accept a refund promise with no published claim steps.

The 7-day UpLead trial gives 5 credits, enough for a few test emails. The help center says trial activation takes payment details, and an account not canceled by day 7 is billed $890 annually for the Essentials Plan, as read on October 30, 2026.
